In tunnel drilling operations with tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), a relatively large concentrated load is applied by the device jacks to the prefabricated parts of the tunnel cover (segment). This load leads to significant tensile stresses in the thickness of the segment. One of the most important parameters affecting the amount of tensile stresses in the thickness of the segment is the geometry of the load plate of the propulsion jack. In this study, with the aim of reducing the amount of tensile stresses in the thickness of the segments, the innovative changes in the geometry of the loading plates of the propulsion jack have been evaluated experimentally and numerically. For this purpose, 12 segment samples including six samples with plain concrete and 6 samples with fibrous concrete, each in two modes with conventional loading plate and the proposed slotted loading plate, have been examined. The results show that the cracking force (capacity) of the sample with the proposed innovative plate has increased by 30% compared to the conventional sample. In order to provide a method for modeling the present problem, the modeling process was presented and its results were critically compared with laboratory results. The force obtained from the results of numerical modeling in Abacus software is in good agreement with the laboratory model and therefore the process of numerical modeling in predicting the amount of force is recommended.
